Suspended Catholic Priest of Abakaliki Diocese in Ebonyi State, Christopher Okorie, has tied the knot with his heartthrob in the state capital.
The ceremony took place as Catholic faithful world over are still in the euphoria of the solemnity of the All Saints Day, commemorating the Feast of All Hallows.
Checks reveal that Okorie, yesterday, took former Miss Ogonna Obasi to the Ebonyi State High Court marriage registry for official ceremony that declared them legally married.
After fulfilling all marriage rites according to the culture and tradition of Uburu community in Ohaozara Local Government Area of the state, Okorie took his wife to the court where they were declared husband and wife before proceeding to Nkwegu Ugbala event centre, Mile 50, Abakaliki for a grand reception.
Okorie hails from Ishiagu in Ivo Local Government Area and ordained a priest in 2005 by His Lordship, Most Revd. Dr. Michael Okoro.
He served in parishes including St. Jude Catholic Church, Umuezeokoha in Ezza North council and the Holy Rosary Parish, Okposi, where he founded the popular Holy Rosary College (HRC), Okposi before he travelled to America for further studies where he bagged a PhD in Law. He returned to Nigeria in 2006.
Further checks also revealed that Okorie, upon return to Nigeria, served briefly in some parishes across the diocese before he fell out with one of the parishes he pastored which led to his attack that resulted in his exit from the service of the Catholic Church as a priest.
He was allegedly attacked by irate youths suspected to be political thugs from Uburu, the hometown of Governor David Umahi and Minister for Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu in 2014.
His property was reportedly carted away by the mob after beating him to pulp.
Okorie, it was gathered, felt bad when the Bishop allegedly could not protect him by condemning his ordeal in the hands of those he described as political thugs working for the past administration in the state when he preached against some of the activities of the government in the build up to the 2015 general election.
Okorie, in protest, left the parish after he allegedly applied for transfer owing to the fact that his life was in danger and had his request turned down.
He relocated to Enugu State and took up employment with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
