Shoprite Nigeria owner, Mr Christo Wiese thought it wise to start operations in 2005, with its first store opened at Victoria Island in Lagos. The company also have subsidiaries in Namibia, Zambia, Uganda, Botswana, Mozambique, Madagascar, Angola, Congo DR, Ghana, Congo, Swaziland, Lesotho, Mauritius, and other African countries.
Shoprite is the largest retail chain of grocery stores in Africa. The company has also branches in many other Nigerian major cities like, Onitsha, Abuja, Enugu, Kano, Ilorin, Kano, Ibadan, amongst others. It was rumored that Shoprite will still expand to more 20 states in Nigeria by August 2015
