Sahara Reporters is reporting that the captured Chibok girls were released after a prisoner swap with the Nigerian government. It quoted an unnamed Boko Haram commander as making the revelation but did not say which prisoners were swapped for the girls.
According to the presidency, the girls release was facilitated by a collaboration between the International red cross, the Swiss government and the Nigerian government. “The release of the girls, in a limited number is the outcome of negotiations between the administration and the Boko Haram brokered by the International Red Cross and the Swiss government. The negotiations will continue,” presidential spokesman Garba Shehu said in the statement on Thursday, October 13 after news of the girls’ release went viral.
