A former competitive sportsman and his wife sexually and physically abused their daughter for more than a decade, often locking her in a shed or surrounding her with barbed wire so she couldn’t escape.
The girl’s father, who had quit his job to coach his children in sports with the goal of competing at the Olympics, abused his daughter for the first time when she was five years old and her mother was giving birth to her younger sibling at the hospital, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.
The next 14 years of abuse was recently detailed in a 12-week-long trial at the Downing Centre District Court, after which the father was found guilty of 73 child sex offences.
